Corns and Callus
A callus is an area of hard, thickened skin. This can occur due to problems such as a bony deformity, as a result of inappropriate footwear or simply due to the way you walk. This hard area can be very uncomfortable.
Corns are caused by pressure and friction, usually over a joint. There are different types of corn but all can be extremely uncomfortable if not treated correctly. This causes n type. Elderly people have less fatty tissue in their skin and this can lead to callus forming on the ball of the foot.
I can help by reducing the painful areas of hard skin or corns. Provide information and advice to manage the condition.
Cracked Heels
Dry, cracked heels can be painful as well as unsightly in the Summer. They are often as a result of the skin around the heel drying out.
I can help by reducing the surrounding dry skin, help determine if there is an underlying cause for the issue. Then provide advice on how to manage and improve the skins health.
Painful Nails
Painful nails are a common complaint and can be thick, discoloured or ingrowing. This can occur for a number of reasons including fungal infections and trauma.
I can help identify the cause of the painful nail, create a treatment plan with you and treat the nail to help to reduce the pain.
Foot Deformities
Common foot deformities include Bunions and lesser toe deformities such as hammer toes. These can be extremely uncomfortable especially if they have callus or corn formed over them.
I can reduce any callus or corn to make you more comfortable, give you advice on footwear, hosiery and other conservative treatments. Together we can also discuss other treatment options such as surgery. A referral can be made to the podiatric surgery team, if needed.
Foot Pain
Foot pain most commonly occurs in the heel or under the ball of the foot. This can happen for a number of reasons including Plantar fasciitis and Morton’s Neuroma.
I can help to identify the cause of the pain, develop a treatment plan which could include orthotics and stretches. Where needed a referral on to other services can be made.
Verrucae
Verrucae are warts normally found on the sole of the foot or on the toes and are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is highly contagious.
I can help reduce the verrucae site using a number of different techniques.
Diabetic Assessment
Diabetes is a disease that develops from having high blood glucose levels. This can damage the blood vessels and/or the nerves (neuropathy) in the feet.
It is important to check your feet daily, wear appropriate footwear and seek advice if any problems occur.
I can provide advice, routine podiatry treatment to reduce corns and callus and can carry out a diabetic assessment. The assessment looks at your blood supply and if there is any evidence of loss of sensation in your feet.
